Who I am

Taylor Urbanic – Ballet Instructor | Choreographer | Pointe Specialist

Taylor Urbanic is a professional ballet instructor, choreographer, and pointe specialist with nearly two decades of experience in classical ballet and contemporary movement. She is deeply passionate about training dancers with excellence while encouraging them to pursue their calling with both skill and purpose.

Taylor began her formal ballet education at the prestigious South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, where she received intensive classical training and developed a deep appreciation for the discipline and beauty of ballet. She later continued her studies at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, immersing herself in rigorous technical instruction and broadening her movement vocabulary with modern and contemporary techniques.

Her training is rooted in the Vaganova method, with additional influence from Balanchine technique, allowing her to offer students a well-rounded, stylistically versatile foundation. She has performed classical, neoclassical, and contemporary repertoire and has appeared as a guest artist in university productions and local performances across the Southeast. Her stage experience informs her coaching style, helping dancers connect their technique with artistry and confidence in performance settings.

In addition to her performance background, Taylor is a certified professional pointe shoe fitter, offering expert guidance in pointe shoe selection and personalized fittings for dancers of all levels. She specializes in helping dancers prepare for the transition to pointe work safely and with a strong technical base. Her private lessons in technique, pre-pointe, pointe, and choreography are known for being detailed, encouraging, and thoughtfully customized to each dancer’s goals.

Taylor also offers custom choreography services, creating original solos for competitions, showcases, and recitals. Her choreographic work blends classical lines with innovative phrasing and musical sensitivity, often drawing from both ballet and contemporary influences. As a choreographer, her mission is to create pieces that not only challenge dancers technically but also allow them to move with intention and tell a story on stage.

Beyond the studio, Taylor serves as Co-Director of Greenwood’s The Nutcracker, a community-driven production aimed at uniting local studios, developing young artists, and bringing professional-level ballet to the Greenwood, SC area. Through this work, she champions unity in the dance community and provides meaningful performance opportunities for dancers of all backgrounds.

At the heart of everything she does is a desire to train with excellence as an act of worship, encouraging dancers to use their gifts to glorify God. Taylor believes that every plié, pirouette, and performance can reflect something greater—and she is honored to help students grow not just as dancers, but as artists with purpose.
